Exciting News about our new Sensory Hub!!

We are so excited to announce we have found a property for our new Sensory Hub and it’s not far from where we are based presently.

After a tough few years of searching we have finally found our next step in Sense Abilities journey. Our new Sensory Hub will enable us to do so much more than we presently do and we are beyond excited about it. The new Lease has been agreed and we are just waiting to sign on the dotted line.

All those years of planning for Sensory messy play sessions, Sensory story time, Themed sensory sessions and so much more are now going to become a reality. There will also be room for a small sensory shop and we can’t wait.

Our present space..

Over the last year we have moved from our single office. This is where we were based and from which we ran our pop up sessions at various venues around Torbay and beyond. Unfortunately 2020 was an extremely difficult year for many of us and we at Sense Abilities had to change the way we did things to adapt in such a difficult time.

We moved over to a double office and created our first sensory room in the front room. We wanted to ensure we offered a sensory space of some description to local families. At the time this was the best way of doing it. We were thrilled that it was a huge success. We have many families, new and returning, coming to enjoy the space week on week.

Throughout the time it has been up and running we have been listening to your feedback and very much taking note. Despite our best efforts and the bucket list we had of what the new property needed to have we just couldn’t find one that fitted our every need so we needed to make some compromises. This new property does come very close though we are happy to say.

Looking at the plus points..

  • Our new property has it’s own toilet! It isn’t the largest but it is our own so a definite plus point.
  • There are no flights of stairs to get up to the sensory room. There are only 2 steps at the entrance of the property, so a lot more accessible.
  • The sensory room will be larger than what we currently have, and we hope better equipped. Though we will say that the feedback on our current one has been so positive about the sensory equipment and toys on offer.
  • We will have a multi-use space for group sessions, seating, messy play, story time, themed sessions and more.
  • There is a kitchen so we now have the possibility of being able to offer refreshments
  • We will be able to offer the whole space for Sensory Parties!
  • Room for a small shop space. You will be able to see the products we sell and purchase them from us and not just online.

We are sure there are many more but these are very much some of the important ones.

So what now?

There is still lots to do! We have negotiated and agreed on the lease and now just waiting for the final documentation to be drawn up so we can sign. There are a few building works to be completed in the sensory room to make it safe and secure. It will then need all the sensory equipment and flooring to be fitted. Seating needs to be bought, signage needs to go up, messy play equipment purchased and the most important thing of all … move everything over. We will need to plan sessions, organise a timetable of events and so much more. It is so going to be worth it though and we really can’t wait to welcome you to our new Sensory Hub.
